International Fieldwork Course in the Amazon Rainforest
Date: June 9-17 (1st edition) and July 14-22 (2nd edition)
Location: Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve, Manaus, Brazil
About: Igapó Institute (Brazilian NGO) is organizing two editions of a fieldwork course this year, with the institutional support of one the most important research centers in the tropics (INPA). The course will take place in a 100 km2 reserve of primary rainforest. Each edition will be 8 days of hands-on training in sampling, with a special focus on Invertebrates.
We will apply many different techniques to observe and collect invertebrates, including light traps (every night, all night), pan traps, pitfalls, fruit traps, malaise traps, pheromone traps, night walks, etc. The participants can choose to only join the entomological surveys or they can also opt to join all surveys. We are offering a very good discount for the first edition (9-17 June): 580 USD for the full 8 days, with everything included in the reserve (food, rooms, equipment, insurance, expert biologists, etc).
The infrastructure is simple but clean and functional and completely immersed in the rainforest, including classrooms, laboratory, etc. The hands-on fieldwork will be complemented by lectures and talks from expert researchers and environmental government agencies, giving the participants the most complete notion of Amazon conservation and research. Contact us for further details.
8th International Conference on Phthiraptera

Location: Marseille, France
About: The International Conference on Phthiraptera (parasitic lice) promises to deliver an exciting scientific program and will bring together clinicians, veterinary scientists, evolutionary biologists, and taxonomists working on various aspects of the biology of lice. The meeting aims to advance the study of lice and louse-borne diseases in all aspects of theory, principles, methodology, and practice.
2025 Biology of Vector-borne Diseases Course
Date: June 16 – June 21, 2025
Location: Moscow, Idaho, USA
About: The 2025 Biology of Vector-borne Diseases Course will be held on the University of Idaho campus in Moscow, Idaho from June 16 - June 21, 2025. The course provides accessible, condensed training for advanced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, new faculty, and professionals to ensure competency in basic biology and cutting-edge knowledge for U.S. and global vector-borne diseases of plants, animals, and humans.
Applications Due: March 17, 2025
Bugapalooza
Date: June 21, 2025
Location: National Museum of Health and Medicine, Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
About: Join NMHM and other DOD experts for specialized stations showcasing different varieties of bugs (some alive!) and raising awareness of the research dedicated to the prevention and treatment of bug-borne illness. Learn how to battle the bugs or use them to your advantage as you discover which bugs are bizarre, beneficial, or downright deadly. Bug costumes are encouraged!

From Bites to Insights: Hands-on Ectoparasite and Vector Identification, Collection, and Surveillance Training
This workshop provides a crash course on ectoparasites and vectors, crucial for both human and animal health. Participants will gain practical, hands-on experience in identifying common ectoparasites (such as ticks, fleas, mites, and lice) and learn about their diversity and ecological roles. The workshop will cover techniques for safely collecting ectoparasites from animal hosts, with a focus on accurate specimen handling and preservation. Additionally, participants will explore surveillance methods used to monitor vector populations, including mosquito traps and tick collection tools. A key focus will be assessing vector-borne disease risks and developing strategies to prevent bites and disease transmission. This interactive training is designed to equip professionals with the skills to enhance vector surveillance and mitigation efforts in their respective fields. Learn more.

Ecology of Aphidophaga 16
Date: September 8 - 12, 2025
Location: Bologna, Italy
About: Ecology of Aphidophaga 16 will be held in Bologna, Italy, September 8-12, 2025. The mission of Aphidophaga has been to connect entomologists studying the ecology of aphid-feeding arthropods strategies, and practical applications. Aphidophaga is a meeting focused on the ecology of arthropods that have evolved to exploit aphids as food, either as a primary resource, or as one component of a generalized diet. We hope to be able to offer travel grants to assist young scientists and students with travel costs to attend the meeting. These will be available pending approval from the International Organization of Biological Control.
