International Fieldwork Course in the Amazon Rainforest

-

Date: June 9-17 (1st edition) and July 14-22 (2nd edition)

Location: Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve, Manaus, Brazil

About: Igapó Institute (Brazilian NGO) is organizing two editions of a fieldwork course this year, with the institutional support of one the most important research centers in the tropics (INPA). The course will take place in a 100 km2 reserve of primary rainforest. Each edition will be 8 days of hands-on training in sampling, with a special focus on Invertebrates.

We will apply many different techniques to observe and collect invertebrates, including light traps (every night, all night), pan traps, pitfalls, fruit traps, malaise traps, pheromone traps, night walks, etc. The participants can choose to only join the entomological surveys or they can also opt to join all surveys. We are offering a very good discount for the first edition (9-17 June): 580 USD for the full 8 days, with everything included in the reserve (food, rooms, equipment, insurance, expert biologists, etc).

The infrastructure is simple but clean and functional and completely immersed in the rainforest, including classrooms, laboratory, etc. The hands-on fieldwork will be complemented by lectures and talks from expert researchers and environmental government agencies, giving the participants the most complete notion of Amazon conservation and research.
